Bluejays Win Two of Three in Weekend Baseball Tournament
In three games heard Friday and Saturday on WJMT and wjmtfm.com and seen Friday on WJMT-TV on YouTube, the Merrill Bluejay Post 46 baseball team won two of three games to raise their season record to 2-6. On Friday, the Jays defeated an undermanned Crandon Bobby Goats squad 10-3. Merrill starter and AmericInn Player of the Game right hander Quinton Kutzhals (pictured) lasted 6 2/3 innings before reaching the 105 pitch limit, with Andrew Josinger finishing the game. The Jays scored early and often paced by center fielder Kory Page in the Jays strongest offensive output of the season.
Saturday’s first game was a repeat of the Merrill-Northland Pines contest during the high school season, but Bluejay starter and AmericInn Player of the Game Connor Josinger (pictured) gave up the only run on the game in the first inning of a 1-0 loss. Connor last 6 2/3 innings before he too reached the 105 pitch limit, with his brother Andrew coming in for the second game in a row to throw one pitch to gain the last out in the top of the seventh. Merrill only managed three hits against Northwoods in the loss.
The Bluejay offense came back to life in game two, defeating Rhinelander 14-5. Cooper Wendorf (pictured), AmericInn Co-Player of the Game gave up only six hits and garnered double figures in strikeouts while walking only three in his complete game effort. AmericInn Co-player of the Game Kory Page went 3-4 while patrolling center field in Death Valley with impeccable defensive prowess in the win.
The Bluejay boys resume conference play on Tuesday with a double-header at Woyak Park in Plover. Coverage on WJMT and wjmtfm.com begins at 4:45 for the Nicolet Bank pre-game show and first pitch at 5:00.
